Mookaite is the local name for a variety of silicified porcelainite. Mookaite is a truly beautiful gemstone and has grown
in popularity in recent times.
It is a hard stone and takes an excellent polish.

It occurs in the geological formation known as Windalia Radiolarite (WR), a Lower Cretaceous sedimentary unit that outcrops over much of the Carnarvon Basin in Western Australia.
The gemstone is named after the location at Mooka Station, Carnarvon Shire, Western Australia. Mindat describes Mookaite as a silicified type of Radiolarite whose silification is opaline to chalcedonic.
