Australia has about 90% of the world's resource of gem grade PREHNITE, a truly beautiful gemstone. We have named this beautiful and unique gemstone, SunJade®. This material is extremely translucent and can have a Moonstone or Cat's Eye effect. The Golden SunJade®, a bright yellow variety of the gemstone, is particulary scarce and the material is already in huge demand. |
HISTORY OF AUSTRALIAN PREHNITE - SunJade® Prehnite, SunJade®, from Wave Hill, Northern Territory is the finest variety of this unique gemstone in the world. This fine, gemstone, SunJade® , will soon be available commercially on the international market. Prehnite was discovered in the Wave Hill area of Northern Territory many years ago and. During the 1960's several local fossickers sold quantities of low to medium grade material to dealers in Victoria. These first shipments of prehnite were sent to Germany for carving and then nothing more was mined after the early shipments. During the 1970's, I had the good fortune to gain permission to access old mines reports at the Bureau of Mineral Resources in Darwin, prior to it being blown away by Cyclone 'Tracey'. On the first trip to Wave Hill, in 1974,I realised the potential of the area to produce fine quality prehnite but I also identified other gem and mineral reserves of economic significance. I first discovered the deposit of high quality faceting grade prehnite in 1982 and for the next few years I prospected the area and finally obtained mining tenements. After extensive work on materials retrieved from the Exploration Licenses, I realised the potential of the material for gem processing into ornamental works and semi-precious gems. From late 2000, we have been involved in negotiations with various associates and contacts throughout the world in order to commence working the deposit commercially. Current material on the market is either scavenged from the surface or illegally extracted and processors are not able to gain continuity of supply. The deposits are currently held under Exploration Licenses with a view to future large scale mining in specific areas. A number of reputable dealers have expressed interest in purchasing large quantities of raw material for processing.. We have completed major exploratory work on this deposit and, hopefully, later this year we will complete a bulk sampling program. Companies interested in purchasing large quantities of prehnite, for processing, are invited to write to us stating expressions of interest in the material, specifically prehnite, at: sales@openallday.com.au There are many colours and qualities of material as can be seen from the photographs (above). The results of our sampling during 2006 revealed extensive outcrops of viable material. If you are interested in obtaining continuity of supply of this beautiful material, please let us know where you are from (country), what annual volumes you would consider buying and also the frequency of ordering. Known reserves are currently held under Exploration Licenses or Applications. Other gems and minerals may also be available and photographs of these may also be viewed below. For further information write to Gerald Pauley: sales@openallday.com.au As well as SunJade® , a number of other minerals are also found at Wave Hill such as agate, amethyst, amethyst geodes, beta quartz, calcite, chalcedony, chalcedony pseudomorphs after calcite and other minerals, hematite, iceland spar, quartz, smoky quartz, scolecite and other zeolites.
